1. Majestic Cliffs off Wied il-Mielaħ

The path that from Wied il-Mielaħ saunters around the coast on the western side of Gozo provides spell-binding views of dramatic cliffs – a spectacle to be enjoyed both in the calm weather when the sea is like one endless mirror and on rough days when the waves crash on the precipice relentlessly. These are wild, untouched corners of the island offering unique experiences. Always approach with great prudence.

2. The view from the lighthouse

It might not be right on the edge of the coastline, but it is perched high on Ta’ Ġordan hill and it is definitely one of the places you need to check out if you’re touring the western side of the island.

3. San Dimitri Point, legends and more

Along the western coast, very close to the spot known as Ras San Mitri, you will also notice the chapel of San Dimitri.  Various legends are associated with this spot. The current chapel is not the original one, as the first one crumbled off into the sea during an earthquake. Legend has it that the chapel fell into the sea intact and fishermen used to report that the oil lamp in the old chapel still burned at the bottom of the sea.

4. Rustic charm of the villages of Għarb and San Lawrenz.

Driving around or hiking the area will eventually lead you through the villages of Għarb and San Lawrenz.  You might want to stop and explore these charming villages or else visit one of the restaurants or bars for a quick lunch.

5. The Inland Sea at Dwejra

This is a unique lagoon that the depression in the rocks created, leaving a very convenient tunnel that links it to the main sea. A favourite place among bathers, but also those who love kayaking, the area is truly picturesque.  Consider taking a boat ride while you’re in the area.

6. A Blue Hole

This place needs no introduction among the diving community, and the Blue Hole at Dwejra is a most-sought after location.  Another diving spot to check out is the remains of what was once the Azure Window now lying at the bottom of the sea.  Close by the Blue Hole, is a quaint chapel dedicated to Saint Anne. The chapel’s architecture is reminiscent of the Spanish style.

7. Dwejra Tower and Fungus Rock

Without doubt the coastal Tower of Dwejra is one of the markers along the side of the coast and so is the Fungus Rock.

8. Dwejra Bay

Eventually you’ll end up at Dwejra Bay, a favourite anchorage point for sailing boats and yachts.  The place is certainly worth the walk along the coast’s edge.  Watch out for the old slipway and the old huts tucked away in the rocks.

9. Take a deep breath at the Wardija Punic Temple

Some believe that the area where the Wardija Punic Temple is located has mysterious and mystic connotations. Without doubt it is a spot of great natural beauty. This is truly the case where a picture is worth a thousand words….

10.More Panoramic Views from San Raflu

Finally coming up to the area of the San Raflu, the panoramic views engulf you.  It is a view that on one side has the open sea and on the other projects the bay of Xlendi beneath you. On a clear day, you’ll also be able to view the island of Malta from this vantage spot.
